The Journey to Mountaineer Technology Consultants
Ever since I watched my father as a child, I knew that someday I would eventually run my own business. My father ran his own insurance business for many years and was decent at it for a long time. His work ethic is something that rubbed off on me and it was something I’ve always admired.
Even as I moved into the workforce, I started laying the foundation for starting my own enterprise. When I took a job as night auditor at a hotel while I was looking for more permanent work, I would go do work on computers for different clients during the day, and then go to work all night for the hotel. I would sleep maybe 3-5 hours a day. But that’s because I was working as a means to an end. I would always bring computers in at night to work on while I was on audit shift, and one day my boss asked me what exactly could I do. Well, that led to some work, which led to some more work, which led to me eventually taking over every hotel they have doing all of their computer work.
Even when I took a job with the State Network for Educational Telecomputing, I continued all of the hotel’s computer work and expanding my client base out over the last twelve years to put me in this position. There was never a doubt in my mind, that one day, I was going to be my own boss and strike out on my own in full. I was just waiting for the right time and situation.
I think I found out that there is no exact right time or situation. I ended up with the understanding that sometimes you have to jump in with both feet, that you can’t dabble in both and make a small business successful. So now I’ve taken that jump, and as of August 5th of this year, I am fully self-employed.
I have a lot of people to thank over this. People that have supported me through this entire process, everyone that has allowed me to come into their homes and businesses and trusted me with their systems and networks to do what I think is best for each of their situations. It’s that trust and loyalty from my clients, that leads me to the firm belief that I can continue to expand and grow this business into something that not just myself, but the community as a whole would be proud of.
I start on this venture with eyes wide open. Knowing that the work will be hard, that the hours will be long, and that the road to success is fraught with tough business decisions and investments.
I’m here to tell you that I love that, and I’m going to enjoy this ride wherever it takes me. The journey is the adventure, the end game is something that I hope is a very successful endeavor.
